Professional Development Committee

Committee Chairs:

Risa Lin

The Professional Development committee is a new committee whose role will be to organize events open to BUGS at Georgia Tech and Emory that promote career wellness. This committte also is involved with development of non-research skills needed by graduate students at different stages in the program. Possible upcoming events include: seminars on public speaking, grant and paper writing workshops, post-doc panel discussions, qualifying exam Q&A sessions, and time management.

Research Technique Workshop
Watch for the return of the Technique workshop in a new and improved INTERACTIVE format. This will feature senior students giving short presentations and HANDS-ON demonstrations. Bring your own samples and learn how to do exciting new techniques here at GT and Emory. We are aiming for a 2-3 day workshop in the early summer 2006.
BME Business Cards The Professional Development Committee has made several BME Business Cards Templates available to BUGS students for download. We have been unable to find a printing company that can handle one-time bulk business card orders effectively or with a bulk-order discount. Due to time delays in collecting everyone's information and money, bulk-ordering, and our colletcion/distribution, and also because no advantages were found in making a bulk order, we have made the business card templates available so that orders can be made individually (by yourself). We have several styles to choose from, something that would not have been available with a bulk order. More styles may become available in the near future. If you have a style that you would like to share, please do so, and we will make it available on the website.
